Polyrrhenia Village, Kissamos Archaeological Museum And Minoan Cooking Lesson

Ancient Polyrrhenia is located 7km south from Kissamos and in the antiquity it was one of the major hilltop city-states of Western Crete.
Its important history can be traced through the various ancient remains that are still visible today. A walk in the picturesque village of Polyrrhenia will reveal not only the traditional architecture of the 18th and the 19th century and older Venetian structures, but also towers, long aqueducts, rock-cut houses and imposing fortification walls that curve the mountainous landscape, all from the Hellenistic and the Roman periods.

Our next stop and guided tour is to Kissamos archaeological museum.
The artefacts displayed in the archaeological museum of Kissamos come from the excavations in the town (1st floor) and the nearby areas (ground floor) and they cover a vast chronological range from the Minoan prehistory to the Late Antiquity. By exploring them we will reveal many unknown aspects of the ancient everyday life, politics and religion that took place in this area of the world.
