Samaria, Europes’ Longest Gorge Walk

A 16km gorge walk with amazing scenery and unique flora and fauna! An early morning bus (the dep time depends on the area you are staying) will take you to Omalos platue where the entrance of the gorge is. After 5-6 hours of walking through the spectacular gorge you will end up to the pricturesque village of Agia Roumeli where you can enjoy your swim to the Crystal clear water of the Libyan Sea. A boat trip follows in a nearby village where your bus will be waiting for you to take you back at your hotel by approximately 21:00.

Important notes:

  • This walk is only recommended for people in good health. It is a walk for all family but not children younger than 6years old. In any case the participation of a minor or not is a decesion that only the parent can take.
  • Samaria gorge is a protected area, so the following are strictly prohibited: any kind of pollution, collection of rocks, ancient findings, plants, animal hunting, free camping, fire and smoking around fauna, any activity that may threaten or damage the ecosystem.
  • The ticket price does not include food or drinks, entrance fee which is 5euros for people over 15years old and boat ticket (the price depends on the area you are staying that determines the boat you have to take)
  • A hat, sun lotion, your swimming suit, a bottle of water (which you can keep refilling all the way down from the water springs), snacks and comfortable strong shoes are necessary for the day.

  1. 1 Pick up

    Pick ups from your hotel or a hotel nearby and drive to the Omalos plateau, entrance of the gorge where there is time to purchase a hot drink and breakfast and use the facilities before you start.

    *The pick up time depends on the area you are staying.

  2. 2 The walk

    Walk through the gorge which is 16km and  takes approx 6 hours.

  3. 3 Free Time at Ag. Roumeli

    Free time for some optional lunch, rest and swim at Agia Roumeli

  4. 4 The Boat Trip

    17.30 boat departs to a nearby village.

    *The destination depends on the area you are staying.

  5. 5 Meet your bus

    Meet your bus and driver at the arrival port to take you back to your hotel.

    *The port you are heading to, the time of arrival and time back to your hotel depends on the area you are staying.
